Covid-19?

(a) What is Covid-19? (b) Where do we see the first outbreak of Covid-19? (c) What are the
symptoms of Covid-19? (d) Who has the highest risk? (e) How can we prevent Covid-19?

Covid-19 is a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. 'CO' stands for corona, 'VI' for virus
and 'D' for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred to as '2019 novel coronavirus'. It can affect our upper respiratory tract (sinuses, nose, and throat) or lower respiratory tract (windpipe and
lungs). It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan City,China. Officials confirm a case
of Covid-19 in Thailand, the first recorded case
outside of China. People with Covid-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported - ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may
appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Common signs and symptoms can include fever, dry cough and tiredness. Early symptoms of Covid-19 may include a loss of taste or smell.Other Symptoms can include shortness of breath, muscle aches, sore throat, runny nose, headache etc.
The virus causing the disease spreads mainly through the air when people are near each other. It leaves an infected person as they breathe, cough, sneeze, or speak and enters another person via
thelr mouth, nose,or eyes.It might also spread via contamlated surfaces. People remain infectiousfor upto two weeks, and can spread the virus even if they do not have symptoms. The Covid.
19 virus infects people of all ages. However, evidence to date suggests that two groups of people are
at a higher risk of getting severe Covid-19 disease. These are older people; and those with
underlying medical conditions. We can prevent Covid-19 by social distancing, wearing a face
mask in public, ventilation and air-filtering, hand washing, covering one's mouth when sneezing or
coughing. disinfecting surfaces, and monitoring and self-isolation for people exposed or

COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign in Bangladesh”.

“COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign in Bangladesh”.

The COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Bangladesh began on 27 January, 2021, but the mass vaccination started from 7 February, 2021. Till 30 May 2021, total 9,991,671 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine have been administered In Bangladesh. Among these, 5,823,245 have received at least one dose and 4,168,426 have been fully vaccinated. Bangladesh is fairly on track to immunize priority groups by the start of this year, and expects to vaccinate rest of the population by mid-2022/Initially,Bangladesh government made a contract with Serum Institute through Beximco Pharmaceuticals for 30 million doses of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine. However, due to recent upsurge of the COVID-19 infection in India, they decided to meet the local need first, and eventually stopped sending the next shipment of the vaccine. Bangladesh government has preferred AstraZeneca vaccine because it can be stored in normal refrigerator temperature, whereas, Pfizer or Moderna vaccines require subzero storage facility. This makes it difficult for a low income country for Bangladesh to first arrange the storage facility and then import the vaccines. Logically,Bangladesh has stuck to a more convenient option, Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine. Though the efficacy level of this vaccine is not as high as that of Pfizer of Moderna, it is proved that it substantially increases the antibody count. Hence, it can be said that Bangladesh has made a rational decision to ensure maximum chances of vaccination of the mass.
