Devastating Consequence of Drug Addiction

Sujon Ahmed, Dhaka, 10 January: Drug addiction has become a great nuisance in Bangladesh. A large number of people especially the young generation are getting addicted to drugs like morphine, heroin, marijuana, cocaine, yaba, etc. Frustration is the main cause of this drug addiction. Failure in love, unemployment, political unrest, social unrest, family conflict, lack of family ties, lack of love and affection etc. are greatly responsible for it.

Mainly the young boys and girls are the victims of drug addiction. Nowadays they are found taking drugs everywhere in the streets, in parks and even in the educational institutions. The number of them is on the rise. It is learnt that most of them start to take drugs at their very teenage. They do not try to realize the severe consequences of drug addiction. When they realize, it is too late. Then they want to shirk of the habit, but they cannot.

The worst thing is that when these drug addicts do not get money to buy drugs, they become ferocious. They misbehave with their parents. Sometimes they become terrorists and get involved in various antisocial activities. They try to manage money for buying drugs by committing crimes like kidnapping, hijacking, and committing robbery.

The final consequence of drug is very devastating. It causes death by severe affliction and suffering. However, people expect that the government as well as the conscious citizens will come forward to get rid of this curse of drug addiction.

A Garment Factory Caught in Fire in Gazipur

Foysal Ameen, Gazipur, 05 April: A devastating fire broke out in a garment factory unit of the Hamim group at Konabari, Gazipur leaving at least 120 workers and employees dead. The cause of the fire is shrouded with mystery.

Smoke engulfed the whole building as a result of which the people inside the building could not come out of the building in spite of their best efforts. The Fire Brigade and Civil Defense rushed to the spot immediately to extinguish fire. The Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force also sent their personnel and helicopters to rescue the people. Even the people of all walks of life joined the rescue operation spontaneously.

After working hard for nearly 10 hours, the Fire Brigade and Civil Defense in collaboration with other agencies succeeded in extinguishing fire. The fire claimed 31 lives and left many others injured. The wounded were admitted into different hospitals and clinics of the city.

The government has already formed a 3-member inquiry committee to find out the cause of the fire.

Star Health Reporter: Foysal Hosen; 4th April, 2020: Girls and women in countries like Bangladesh face violence everyday due to dowry. They face discrimination and get deprived of right to education, health and economic future. Furthermore, by providing dowry to grooms at marriages, certain classes of greedy people are being greedier in demanding more after marriage as well. When they don’t get a positive response from the wives’ part they start torturing and most of the times it leads to fatal consequences.

In order to eliminate this curse from the society, women must be protected. Despite laws and rules, these crimes are not being stopped, because all classes of people are not involved in the implementation of  those laws, especially the youth. Therefore, SERAC-Bangladesh with the support from Women Deliver trained up 50 young volunteers in Gauripur Upazilla of Mymensingh and those youngsters organised a large human chain with hundreds of students and mass people in that area.
