The cutting down of trees indiscriminately to meet up the basic needs of food and housing and Thus destroying the ecological balance is called deforestation. Man needs houses, furniture, and firewood etc. For this, man uses wood. Wood is also used in big industries. Man makes shops, educational institutions, boats, launches, trucks and other vehicles that lead many people to cut down trees. It poses threats to our environment. There are also many people who are engaged trafficking trees from the forests. Thus they make vast areas almost desert and leave many wild animals in danger. All these have multifarious effects over environment. Deforestation is closely related to environment pollution and the greenhouse effects. Trees absorb poisonous carbon dioxide and produce oxygen and thereby maintain ecological balance. But due to deforestation, the amount of carbon dioxide is increasing day by day. Consequently, various natural calamities are occurring very often on the earth. Floods and droughts, cyclones and tornadoes are the common phenomenon in a region where deforestation is going on. To prevent deforestation, some pragmatic steps should be taken. A social movement should be launched to prevent deforestation. Social awareness can be raised against deforestation. Above all our forest department should execute all codes of manner strictly to reduce deforestation to some extent.
